Pre-Order Special Edition of IYL 2015 Galileoscope
15 March 2015

It is now possible to pre-order International Year of Light 2015 special-edition Galileoscopes. The Galileoscope is a high-quality, low-cost telescope kit for education created by astronomers, optical engineers, and science educators.

While assembling the kit, students learn basic optical concepts, including how lenses form images. With their completed 2-inch-diameter, 25- to 50-power telescope, they enjoy sharp views of lunar craters and mountains, Jupiter and its moons, and Saturn’s rings. The kit also comes with free activities (in multiple languages) that can be used in and outside of the classroom.

Galileoscope is one of the IYL 2015 IAU Cosmic Light Cornerstone Projects, with the goal of distributing 100,000 telescopes in 2015. There are now 225 000 Galileoscopes already in use by teachers and students in more than 100 countries.

You can now celebrate the International Year of Light by pre-ordering Galileoscopes for use in education and outreach programs. You can also help by finding sponsors for the distribution of Galileoscopes to schools around the world. If you want to sponsor Galileoscopes for IYL 2015, please contact Doug Arion at darion@carthage.edu.
